Plateau Governor Declares War on Killings, Unveils Tough New Security Measures

Plateau Governor Declares War on Killings, Unveils Tough New Security Measures – Jos, Plateau State – In a bold move to end the bloodshed tearing through Plateau State, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has rolled out a sweeping security plan to halt the deadly attacks that have left over 100 dead in recent weeks.

The governor, in an emotional statewide broadcast on Wednesday, described the killings as a “deliberate campaign of terror” aimed at destroying communities and destabilizing the state.

“What we have witnessed is beyond tragic,” Mutfwang said. “Innocent men, women, and children have been murdered, homes burned, and families shattered. This is not random violence—it is a calculated attack. But Plateau will not break.”

New Security Crackdown

To stop the violence, the governor announced immediate measures, including:

  • Ban on night grazing and cattle movement by vehicles after 7:00 PM.
  • Restriction on motorcycles from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
  • Reactivating local vigilante groups to support security forces.
  • Free medical treatment for all attack victims in state hospitals.

Mutfwang revealed that security forces are being reinforced across troubled areas, and Operation Rainbow, the state security outfit, is being restructured for better response.

Call for Unity and Vigilance

The governor urged citizens to remain calm but alert, warning against revenge attacks. “Do not give in to fear or retaliation,” he said. “Report suspicious activities and stand together.”

He also announced the formation of a Fact-Finding Committee to investigate the root causes of the violence, alongside a Special Envoy on Peace to lead community reconciliation efforts.

President Tinubu’s Support

Mutfwang confirmed he is working closely with President Bola Tinubu, who has ordered security agencies to take “decisive action.”

To the attackers, the governor had a stern message: “Your evil will not prevail. Plateau will rise again.”

As the state mourns its dead, the new measures offer hope—but only time will tell if peace can finally return to Plateau.
